2024 Community Service Awards
As a firm, we are thrilled to participate in MassMutual's grant programs. This year, our Managing Director, Sam Philbrook, received a Gold Community Service Award for his philanthropic initiatives with Friends of Jack Foundation, Inc. The MassMutual Foundation donated a generous $10,000 to Friends of Jack in support of its mission to provide and expand overlooked programs that benefit the physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being of children and families.
“I am honored to be recognized with this award for my ongoing involvement with Friends of Jack,” said Sam Philbrook. “A $10,000 grant will greatly impact program efforts in the community. Friends of Jack recently pledged $280,000 over the next two years to expand Southcoast Health’s Child Life Specialist program. This grant will go towards that commitment and help us chip away at the total.”
With additional funding, Friends of Jack can continue to normalize hospitalization by incorporating play and laughter and offering support to patients and families who are undergoing difficult experiences. Small gestures, like giving a child a superhero mask, have proven to reduce anxiety, provide inner strength, and ease stressful situations. Friends of Jack currently provides children with superhero capes, masks, and bears to help them feel less alone and its recent pledge to Southcoast Health pays for the salary and all associated costs of 100 hours of Child Life Specialist coverage per week. These thoughtful patient comfort and family support items make a tremendous difference in patients’ hospital experience.
Community Service Award recipients are selected through a competitive application process, based on a holistic view of the individual’s community engagement strategy and volunteer work with nonprofit organizations. Sam Philbrook is an active board member and has participated in various program and fundraising events to further Friends of Jack’s mission of protecting children’s mental well-being and physical health while undergoing treatment.
