Framingham, Massachusetts, 10-28-2020 – Special Olympics Massachusetts, an organization dedicated towards spreading inclusion in sports, and changing the way the world sees individuals with intellectual disabilities, has received a $10,000 grant from the MassMutual Foundation as part of a national Community Service Award (CSA) program. Special Olympics Ma is one of thirty-two organizations nationally to receive an award. The MassMutual Foundation made the grant as a tribute to the volunteer efforts of Eric Spindt, President of Commonwealth Financial Group in Boston, Ma.

“We are stronger when we come together as a community, and our Community Service Awards program recognizes a group of financial professionals who embody this spirit, working with members of their respective neighborhoods, towns and cities, helping nonprofits with which they are involved grow and thrive,” said Dennis Duquette, Head of MassMutual Community Responsibility and President of the MassMutual Foundation. “We are proud of the time and energy Eric dedicates to better his community and delighted to support the great work financial professionals do with organizations across the country.”

Special Olympics Massachusetts mission is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

This grant will be to contribute to the equipment, attire, and health supplies that can help transform an athlete's life — both in Massachusetts, and around the world.

Eric has been with Commonwealth Financial Group for six years. He has been committed to Special Olympics Ma since 2005 and has dedicated countless hours of time and talent to help the organization grow and flourish.

“I am very pleased that my dedication to the Special Olympics Ma has been recognized by the MassMutual Foundation,” said Eric. “This grant will provide much needed funding to continue supporting our community through the implementation of sporting events, community building, as well as fundraising.”
